TOLONO — Despite taking a 1-0 lead into halftime, Uni fell 2-1 to the host Rockets this afternoon at Unity High School. The Illineks are seeded No. 2 in the Class A Monticello sectional while Unity is No. 4.

Junior Noel Knox scored for the visitors 25 minutes into the first half. Senior Jake Seeley assisted on the play. The goal was Knox's first varsity score of the season, while Seeley's assist was his eighth of the year.

Early in the game the Rockets were awarded a penalty kick on a call that many of the Illineks disputed. But it didn't matter thanks to senior goalkeeper Isaac Radnitzer, who turned back the scoring opportunity.

Both teams had plenty of chances in the first 40 minutes. Uni recorded 7 shots on goal, 5 by Seeley.

The Rockets tied the game 2 minutes, 22 seconds into the second half and notched the go-ahead goal with 25:16 left.

The Illineks had 5 shots on goal in the second half. Their best opportunity came with a minute remaining as Seeley caught the Rocket goalkeeper out of position. Seeley, coming in from the right, had an open net on the left side but his shot was wide.

Radnitzer finished with 7 saves, 6 of them coming in the first half.

Midfielder Stephen Prochaska did not play as he continues to nurse a leg injury that he first sustained against Decatur Christian on Sept. 6. He has played several times since then. According to Uni head coach Phil Anders, Prochaska gives the team a formidable presence on the outside and would have made a difference today, but he wants the junior to be healthy for postseason action and would rather have him sit out for the time being.

With the nonconference loss, the team's fourth straight, Uni is now 8-7-1 overall, 2-1 in the East Central Illinois Conference. The Rockets are 8-5-2. If the teams play again this season, it would be for the Monticello sectional championship on Oct. 22 and the right to go to the IHSA state tournament.

Uni will host crosstown rival St. Thomas More in a nonconference match on Thursday. The varsity game will begin at 4:30 p.m. After that, only two more regular-season games remain, both at home: against Normal Calvary Baptist on Oct. 9 and against Monticello on Oct. 11.
