URBANA — Fresh off winning the McDonald's Comet Classic last week, the Shiloh Raiders came to Kenney Gym tonight and handed the Illineks their fifth loss of the season.

The Raiders defeated Uni 61-37, raising their record to 6-0. The Illineks fell to 2-5.

Shiloh went 5-0 in the 10-team Comet Classic, defeating host Oakwood for the title 53-47 Friday night. Uni finished 2-3 in the same tournament, beating Hoopeston Area 52-40 for ninth place Friday afternoon.

The visitors spoiled Uni's 2007-08 home debut. The Illineks won't play another home game until Dec. 10, when they host crosstown rival Judah Christian.

The Raiders came into Kenney boasting a lineup featuring three players who made the 10-member Comet Classic all-tournament team: Erin Downey, Emily Joines, and Danielle Brown. They showed no letdown from last week as they sped out to a 23-4 first-quarter lead.

The Illineks stepped up in the second period, holding Shiloh to 13 points while scoring 11 of their own. Despite the stronger showing, Uni went into halftime down 36-15.

The Raiders increased their lead to 53-25 by the end of the third quarter, then cruised to a 24-point win.

Junior Rachel Skoza was the only Illinek to score in double figures. She netted 13 points while hauling in 5 rebounds.

Karen Woodley led the team with 8 boards; she also scored 7 points. Fellow seniors Ruthie Welch and Aran Yoo scored 6 and 5 points, respectively, and they each grabbed 4 rebounds. Yoo added 4 steals.

Seniors Samantha Nguyen (4) and Sarah Pfander (2) rounded out the scoring.

In junior varsity action, Shiloh defeated Uni 45-14. The Illineks are now 0-2 in JV play.

Uni will travel to Villa Grove on Thursday for its next game. JV action begins at 6:15 p.m., with varsity to follow.

The Lady Blue Devils are 1-3, with a 54-37 victory over Decatur Christian. They and the Illineks have played one common opponent, Heritage. Both teams lost to the Hawks, Uni 55-48 and Villa Grove 42-37.
