UNI BASKETBALL PLAYERS, coaches, and parents gathered Monday in Uni Gym for a night of awards, refreshments, and the traditional season video, as the boys and girls varsity, junior varsity, and subbie teams were honored.
Individual awards went to members of the JV and varsity. Senior Aran Yoo won the most valuable player award for the girls varsity, while seniors Mike Renner and Chumar Williams shared varsity MVP honors for the boys.
In East Central Illinois Conference honors, Yoo and junior Rachel Skoza were named all conference, while senior Ruthie Welch and junior Jessi Sullivan received honorable mention.
Renner and Williams were all-conference selections on the boys side. Renner, Uni's all-time leading boys scorer, was the only male player in the ECIC to be a unanimous pick. Seniors Frankie McFarland, Isaac Radnitzer, and Austin Rundus earned honorable mention.
Coaching the girls this year were Rebecca Murphy (varsity head coach), Jeff Blue (JV head coach), Morgan Reeder (subfreshman head coach), Ellie Zabielski (JV assistant coach), Caroline Harless (JV assistant coach).
Coaching the boys were Joel Beesley (varsity head coach), Louis DeCosmo (JV head coach), Rick Murphy (subfreshman head coach), Ben Kramer (JV assistant coach), Cole Cruz (volunteer varsity assistant coach), Adam Tiouririne (student assistant), Richard Weisbach (student assistant).
The girls varsity finished 12-13 overall, 9-3 in the ECIC (second place). The boys varsity went 21-7 overall, 10-2 in the ECIC (second place).
