Girls swimming: Boyce sets another record, team continues to show improvement

UNI'S DANVILLE MEET PERFORMANCE AT A GLANCE

When & Where: Tuesday, Sept. 30, Danville

Result: Third out of three teams (Danville 129, Centennial 108.5, Uni 89)

Summary: Uni swimmers recorded 10 personal bests. Junior Lisa Boyce won two individual events (500 free, 50 free) and set one pool record (24.84 seconds in the 50 free). Freshman Milee Nelson won the 100 backstroke (1:06.98).

DANVILLE — The Uni girls swim team finished third in a tri meet Tuesday against Danville and Centennial , both of which had divers.

First-place Danville won the meet with 129.5 points. Centennial finished not too far behind with a total of 108.5, while Uni kept up with the competition with a final score of 89, a feat in itself given Uni's lack of divers and from the improvement over last year's score of 76.

Junior Lisa Boyce had another stand-out meet, with first-place finishes in the 500-yard freestyle (5 minutes, 16.04 seconds) and the 50 freestyle (24.84). In the latter event she broke former Centennial swimmer Sarah Korellis' 2006 pool record of 25.51. This is Boyce's fourth pool record in five meets.

Fellow newcomer Milee Nelson, a freshman, had Uni's only other first-place finish, in the 100 backstroke (1:06.98). Both Boyce and Nelson, along with juniors Erika Belmont and Sian Best, were part of the 200 medley and freestyle relays, both of which placed second.

Belmont and Best also had third-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.67) and 100 freestyle (1:03.58), respectively.

The Killer Whales recorded 10 personal-best times and will compete again at Danville this Saturday in a tri meet with Danville Schlarman.
