GAME REPORT BY COACH PHIL ANDERS:
Despite out-shooting our opponents in both games, varsity and junior varsity games,
the results were the same. Ties. 0-0 UNI vs. Monticello (varsity), and 1-1 UNI vs.
Monticello (junior varsity).

The varsity game began as a well matched struggle for possession of the game, as
most of the play was on either side of the half line. Uni attacked first, moving the
ball upfield, into the Monticello penalty area, but could not create any solid
chances to score. The second half began in a similar fashion, but Monticello was the
team to attack first, as a shot on goal narrowly missed the target. Uni seemed to
control most of the game, as it kept the ball in the Monticello half in the second
period, out-shooting Monticello 14-3 in the second half (18-5 overall) and winning 5
corner kicks, to Monticello's one. However, weak shot selection, near misses, and
failure to convert opportunities, with Uni hitting the goal posts 3 times, and
Monticello once, left the game scoreless.

The junior varsity game seemed to start out different from the previous tie, when
Revathi Maturi scored an unassisted goal in the first 40 seconds of the game for
Uni. Again, Uni seemed to control the game in Monticello's half, and midway through
the second half had a chance to seal the win, when a Monticello defender was called
for handling the ball in the penalty box. However, those goal posts seemed to have a
mind of their own on this evening, as Katie Buzard's PK hit the crossbar. A few
minutes later, a clearance error by the Uni defense placed the ball in the middle of
a scrambling crowd in front of the goal. As the dust settled, the ball found its way
