GAME REPORT BY COACH PHIL ANDERS:
For our first conference game of the season, our varsity team did enough to secure
the win against Normal Calvary Baptist. 1-0. Most of the game was played in the NCB
half of the field, with the first half having Uni out shoot NCB 12-0, however the
score remained 0-0 at half. Ten minutes into the second half, Erika Belmont played
the ball into teammate Michelle Wong, on a crossing run at the top of the penalty
area, who beat her defender and the goal keeper with a well placed shot. Regular
goal keeper, Sarah Pfander, after a quiet start in goal, exchanged her role for a
midfield position, and contributed at least four shots on goal for the game, but
like many of her teammates, was unable to find the back of the net. With a number of
the team starters on the sideline, Uni continued to press into the NCB half,
however, the NCB counter attack produced 2 corner kicks in the second half and
required one of Uni's backup goal keepers, Laura Sligar, to come off her line on
three occasions to end the NCB attack. FINAL: UNI (1) NCB (0)
