GAME REPORT BY COACH PHIL ANDERS:
In another example of the progress that these Uni soccer teams have made this
season, the girls varsity team met the sixth, and final Class AA team for the
season. Hoping to split the six games, Uni looked to start the game with a force
that played out mostly in the Danville half of the field. Overall, Uni out shot
Danville 16-8, and controlled the tempo of most of the game. However, the Danville
counter attack, and a few costly errors by the Uni team, had the ball rolling over
their goal line 3 times, instead of being placed firmly in the back of the Danville
net. In what seemed to be a case of a 'too little, too late' effective attack on the
Danville goal, Suran Yoo and Joy Shapley connected in the 75th minute, when a ball
crossed by Yoo was struck first time by Shapley at the top of the box and found the
Danville keeper, this time, with no chance to defend her goal. However, the Danville
keeper made good on a number of saves in the second half, including a last second
PK, to keep the game out of reach for Uni. FINAL: UNI (1) DANVILLE (3)
The battle between the JV squads was even more one sided, in Uni's favor. The Uni
goal keepers had a relatively quiet night, only being tested once in the first half,
and twice in the second half, by the Danville attack. On the other side of the field
the Uni attack had 12 shots on goal overall, and forced the Danville keeper into as
many saves to keep the game scoreless. FINAL: UNI JV (0) DANVILLE JV (0)
