GAME REPORT BY COACH PHIL ANDERS

One goal, just before halftime from a rolling cross, deflected on a defensive
clearing attempt to LSA top scorers foot, Hillary King, in which she was just able
to divert the path of the ball in order for it to squeak by on a roll just inside
the Uni goal post, was the difference in a close game between the top two teams of
the East Central Illinois Conference. Sarah Pfander once again did well to defend
her net throughout the game, and when she needed some help, Chelsea Freeland was
able to defend the goal line by all means possible for a close shot late in the
second half. The Uni goal keeper's counterpart was even more busy at the opposite
end, as Uni out shot Decatur Lutheran 15-11 overall. Midway through the second half
it appeared that Uni would tie the game at one goal each when Erika Belmont's shot
beat the LSA goal keeper. A desperate goal line lunge apparently was enough to avoid
the tying goal, as the officials whistle remained silent, and play resumed. The
solid play of central defenders, Sian Best and Jessica Sullivan, contained any
Decatur Lutheran attack, as Pfander was only tested a few times in the second half.
However, Uni struggled to find its rhythm in the middle of the field, and
consequently, struggled to maintain ball possession for a solid build up. Solo
efforts in the attack by Suran Yoo, Erika Belmont, Joy Shapley, and a spectacular
challenge to the LSA keeper from Katie Buzard could not find the back of the net.
Decatur Lutheran was able to withstand the effort, and hold on for the win. FINAL:
