GAME REPORT BY COACH PHIL ANDERS

In a game called short due to the weather, the Uni girls soccer team scored 7 goals
in 70 minutes in an extremely one-sided game against the Champaign Central junior
varsity team. In comparison to this same matchup from last year, when Uni won 2-1,
the progress this team has made since then is quite obvious from this result, and
fine play throughout this year's season. Zoe Schein, playing confidently out of the
back midfield, pushed forward to contribute in the attack, and in the 7th minute of
the game, placed a ball near the Central goal that forward Suran Yoo pounced on to
start the scoring for the night. Yoo would later assist another goal early in the
second half. Uni's goal keeper, Sarah Pfander, who owns the Champaign-Urbana areas
top goals allowed average (GAA) of 0.94 over 17 games, was replaced early in the
game by Sheri Grill. Pfander returned quickly as a field player, where she showed
her talent out of the goal as well by nearly scoring a goal and assisting two others
that were finished by Katie Buzard and Jessica Stark. In a sign of continued future
success for Uni girls soccer, sophomores Buzard and Elizabeth Russell connected for
Buzard's second goal of the game. While fellow classmates Michelle Wong and Erika
Belmont, also sophomores, had their own contributions to the win with Wong, the top
scorer for the Uni squad, adding two more goals to her tally for the season, and
Belmont finding the back of the net with a beautiful left-footed powershot. Both Joy
Shapley and Suran Yoo finished the season with the areas leading total number of
individual assists, at 9 each. FINAL: UNI (7) CHAMPAIGN CENTRAL JV (0)
