Class A Sectional Semifinals (at Williamsville)
Published: Tuesday, May 13, 2008 - 7:18pm
• Playing through a constant downpour, No. 1 seed Williamsville shut out Uni 3-0 in a sectional semifinal game this afternoon.
• The host Bullets went up 1-0 in the first half, then put the game away with goals in the 48th and 59th minutes.
• The No. 4 seed Illineks ended their season 11-6-2, a major improvement over last season's 7-8-2 mark, which in turn was dramatically better than their 2006 record of 4-15.
• Second-year coach Philip Anders is now 18-14-4 and has the program clearly on the upswing. In fact, today's issue of The News-Gazette named the Illineks a team of the week and ranked them second in the entire area, behind only Class AA Mahomet-Seymour.

GAME REPORT FROM COACH PHILIP ANDERS:
The sectional semi final between #1 Williamsville and #4 Urbana-Uni was played on a
windy and rainy afternoon that was fitting for a season that has seen all kinds of
weather. The game began with both teams fighting for possession, and the Uni team
moving into the Williamsville half to create a number of scoring chances. However, a
counter attack by the Williamsville offense along the right wing produced the first
goal of the game, with freshman, Tamara AbuTayeh, sending a cross into the Uni
penalty box to find Presley Kerber one on one with the Uni goal keeper.
Williamsville 1-0. Uni did well to connect passes from sideline to sideline, in one
advance after another to build up an attack, but could not find the back of the net
before the half.
The second half began in a similar fashion, although the slippery conditions made it
difficult for the Uni passing game to take hold, and one too many misplayed balls
were quickly sent upfield by the Williamsville squad. Eight minutes into the half,
senior Katie Harpring received the ball just inside the Uni penalty box and placed a
shot well out of reach for the Uni goal keeper to put Williamsville up 2-0. Another
goal from an uncleared corner kick put the game out of reach for the Uni squad. Uni
looked to get on the scoreboard in the 60 minute of the game, however, a great save
by the Williamsville goal keeper denied Suran Yoo's penalty kick attempt.
FINAL: URBANA-UNI HS (0) WILLIAMSVILLE (3)
