Stephen E. Rayburn

    Stephen E. Rayburn joined the University Laboratory High School staff Fall Semester, 2003, as a Visiting Teaching Associate. In 2005 he was made a full-time Teaching Associate and currently teaches all sections of Subfreshman  English and one section of Junior/Senior Seminar English at Uni. He is a 1972 graduate of Paducah Tilghman High School. He earned a B.A. in English in 1976 from Lambuth College. In 1983 he completed an M.A. in English and American Literature with a minor in Comparative Literature at Ohio University. From 1983 until 1986 he did doctoral work at The University of  Mississippi.

 

    In the past, Rayburn has taught in several public school systems in Kentucky and Tennessee. He has also taught at The Hutchison School for Girls in Memphis and Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes, KY. Before joining the staff at Uni he was a part-time instructor at Parkland Community College in Champaign.

 

    Rayburn is married to Jeri A. Lake, a CNM, who worked at Carle Clinic in Champaign. Following a bicycle accident in 2005, Jeri is home on disability and is currently pursuing her life-long ambition to be a potter. They are the parents of four children. Bryan Lake is a graduate of Grinnell College and is currently teaching second grade at King Elementary School in Urbana, Ill. Daughter Jamie Lake was married in June 2004 to Ryan Rittenhouse. They are living  in Goshen, Ind., where Ryan works in the IT department at Goshen College and Jamie works in a Day Care in Elkhart. Hannah Lake-Rayburn graduated from Uni in 2008 and is now taking a year for formation before she continues her education. Still at home is Sarah Lake-Rayburn, a senior at University Laboratory High School in Urbana, Ill.

 

    The family lives in Champaign, Ill.
