DTC of C-U, October 11, 1999 Open Standard, Tammy Skillman  95, 1st Place 58.94 / 65 seconds, called a fault at the table when I slipped and Fly slowed. He's watching me!
Hounds for the Holidays, December 18, 1999. Novice B Jumpers, Jean Munger  100, 3rd Place 33.09 / 40 sec., needed to redo weave entry, Fly worked beautiful otherwise.
Hounds for the Holidays, December 19, 1999. Novice B Jumpers, Terry Smorch  85 52.95 / 47, yuck!, Fly was all over, came really close to an off course, we even ran into each other, I could have handled better (OK, much better), generous judging.
Hounds for the Holidays, December 19, 1999. Open Standard, Carol Smorch  NQ Did OK, most challenging course we've encountered thus far. Started Fly in a down, two jumps away. He popped right into the weave poles and then popped right out. Gave me a sense of what I will need to do at the advanced levels.

95 (1st), NQ 65.75/73, stopped to sniff bag holding down the tunnel at the base of the dogwalk, in Open JWW Fly headed toward the crowd when he thought we were done. In retrospect I think he was quitting. Maybe we need to work on happy, happy, happy!
Car-du-Nal, March 11, 2000 Open Std and Open JWW  2 NQs Good JWW run (I forget why we didn't qualify, though weave poles were a part of it), Fly meltdown in Standard. This was where I really came to realize the need to work on happy, happy, happy!
Lakeshore Corgi Club, Plano, IL, May, 2000 Open Std and Open JWW (B. Drabek) 2 NQs Nice runs, 2 refusals in each (right angle weave entry in Jumpers, pushed out and entered between poles 2 and 3 in Standard). Missed the down contact on the dogwalk. Ran enthusiastically, which was my big goal for this trial.

Pulled from Excellent Standard due to course conditions. 37.05/37 JWW running in mud! Missed weave entry on a very challenging course, great run! Fly was super-responsive. I can turn him after any jump and keep him away from traps if I call him as he starts to take the previous jump, or so it seems.

NQ (95), NQ (95) Ran two great courses (95s). Chris says I slipped or scuffed the floor which resulted in my pulling him out of the weaves in Standard, missed the entry in JWW. Sounds reasonable. Easily made time in each.

NQ (82), 100 (1st) Maybe Fly's becoming a bit too happy. The first half of the standard course went great. I slowed him on the A frame, he hopped off the top of the table and then back on. Off course, missed weave pole entry, teeter fly off (almost) and we still came in under time. JWW went smoothly, similar to Winnegamie course in terms of challenges though no mud. Fly was just where I wanted him to be throughout the course, 39/45. Distance handling is coming! Didn't feel like we were pushing hard, though any faster may have resulted in an off course in many places.

Nice first run in Excellent Standard! I messed up on a 180 degree rotation off a single jump which reversed to a tunnel under the dog walk. I thought Fly was on his way over the jump, I slowed and so did he... Have to handle less conservatively.

Reasonable Jumpers course, onside weaves.

Excellent Standard course was pretty straight forward. Onside weaves - 58.91/70. Likewise with the Jumpers course - 40.78/46. I got ahead of him and chickened out on the offside weave - didn't want to risk the possibility of losing the leg.

NQ, NQ Didn't feel well and I think it reflected in my handling. Missed A-frame contact in Excellent. My fault, Fly crept along the A frame and I released him too early. JWW distance work was something that we weren't ready for...

NQ, 100 (2nd)

Our first trial where it was cold in the building. Fly wanted desperately to run and popped out of the weave poles because he wanted one of the jumps. Re-entered in tehe wrong place. My fault. Distance work is making a difference, with Fly working further away from me and popping into a tunnel (off course). Came in four seconds under time with long waits on the contacts (we had NQed already). Would have easily been 10+ if we hadn't had the problems. JWW run was very nice. Handled tightly in the areas that were tight and worked ahead of me in the areas where it was needed.

Beautiful run on challenging standard course. I pushed Fly off the dog walk by pointing it out to him once he had already commited. AAAAAARRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!!! Came in under time. Nice JWW run. Lots of open areas interspersed with a bunch of 180s and visual traps. Fly was turning too tightly, slipping and falling three or four times on the course. 42.64/47.

NQ, NQ In Standard, Fly was all over after I had a bad pivot into the weaves in Standard. Took a wrong tunnel and then just ran all over the course. Very happy, wanted to run. I thought this might be nice in Jumpers but was wrong. I led out two jumps and Fly submissively came around the second jump. The rest of the course was pretty good, though I lost track of the tire. We need to work on full size courses before running in trials at the start of the season.

Fly had been out since the Peoria trial due to his gall bladder surgery. Had two nice runs. Didn't practice until a few days before the trial. Ran well in Standard. We missed obstacle 20 on the way out of the ring. Oops! Fly was two + jumps ahead of me. Excellent JWW was very nice with Fly running almost 3 seconds under the course time.

Clean run in standard. 60.47/71. I thought we may have missed the down contact on the A frame, but I guess I was wrong. Offside weaves for the first time in a trial situation. Knocked the bar on jump 13 in JWW. 39.37/45. I should have pushed Fly out more than I did. Oops!

I spent too much time playing on the table and repositioning Fly. Everything else went fine in standard. Nice contacts, onside weaves. 60.01/65. Nicely flowing JWW course, offside weaves. Timing error meant that we had to rerun. 2nd JWW was very fast. 37.59/40. I think we earned seven MACH points. Recheck this in July.

Missed the dogwalk down contact and one jump in standard. A bit too much distance. Fly ran very happily. Nice time, though I didn't record it. JWW run was much slower, though qualifying. Did our first serpentine with three tandem turns! 40.20/42 (I think).

Labrador Retriever Club National Specialty, Valparaiso, IN Excellent Std and Excellent JWW NT, NQ Very happy first run. Slid off the table at obstacle 10. Did the tunnel under the A frame, the next two jumps and then a pinwheel which existed only in his head. Over the fence, and after the joggers. Oops. Pretty good jumpers run, though we missed the last two weave poles and a jump.

NQ, NQ Nice run in standard, missed the onside weave pole entry coming off of the dogwalk. Hit all of our contacts, though. 59.66/59. Nice run in jumpers, popped out of the set of 9 weaves at the eighth weave. 41.43/41. I would like to show under the judge again. I was VERY pleased with Fly's desire and initiative through both runs.

Great day! Fly was sufficiently up, but not too much... Ran jumpers first. Twisty, turny course. Onside weaves, 3 pinwheels.38.81/44, 2nd place. Might have called this a small dog course. Standard was a nice clean course. Jump-tire-tunnel/dogwalk discrimination, A-frame-teeter discrimination. 1 pinwheel. Onside weaves. 56.24/64.

100 JWW, 1st Day

Rain and mud!!! Fly ran well on the first course (JWW). Offside weaves. 38.63/47. Missed weave pole entry in standard. Fly saw the opening to the gate and started heading out. Got him back on course and he finished well. Missed a contact on the A frame in Std on Sunday. Missed weave pole entry in JWW on Sunday. Then Fly fell apart. I had planned to push him out and then pull him back in for the offside weave entry. He spooked when I put my hand toward him (think he just saw something out of the corner of his eye) and then continued through the course until he saw the end gate. In retrospect, I think that Fly is getting used to me letting down at the end of the course, so he is taking that as his signal to go over the last jump and then head toward the entrance/exit. I need to restructure how I work with him. Pleased with his performance overall though, particularly considering the conditions!

100 JWW, 2nd Day

Popped the weave poles on both runs the first day. Decided to work Fly very closely in the weave poles. Rain and mud again on Sunday! We made it through the first seventeen obstacles in standard before an off course to the table. My fault. Ran the jumpers course well. Kind of a question mark (five jumps) to a tunnel. Straight out into the triple and rigt turn into weaves. Right turn into jump, tunnel, jump, 270 degree turn, jump, straight to next jump, right turn, three jumps, call off and then loop of five jumps to the end. Yay! What a great little dog!
